'DISPOSABLE ANGELS'
Written and Directed by Lunga Yeni
Disposable Angels is a haunting and poetic short film that blurs the lines between memory, myth, and revenge. Told through the eyes of Lucky, a brilliant yet broken young woman haunted by her violent childhood, the film explores the cyclical nature of trauma and the resilience of women who refuse to be silenced.
In fragments of dream and reality, we follow Lucky as she confronts the ghosts of her past — her mother Thandi, a woman once full of love and stories, and her father King, a man consumed by power and addiction. As adult Lucky seeks justice in her own quiet, calculated way, echoes of the African rain goddess Modjaji weave through the story, transforming tragedy into myth and defiance.
Visually lyrical and emotionally raw, Disposable Angels is a meditation on generational pain, the reclamation of identity, and the truth behind Thandi’s final words:
“If a man expects a woman to be an angel in his life, he must first create heaven for her. Angels don’t live in hell.”
