Cutting Edge
Beauty. Power. Reckoning.
Written by Lunga Yeni as part of a BFI initiative led by Hollywood producer, director, and actor Tim Reid, Cutting Edge explores the cost of beauty and the weight of accountability.
The film follows Nula Wright, a fashion and beauty editor whose career has been built on promoting harmful, anti-Black beauty ideals. When her editor demands a feature on vaginal tightening procedures, Nula is forced to confront the damage she’s inflicted on her community and herself. Torn between ambition and awakening, she must decide: will she write the article, or finally face the truth she’s long ignored?
Cutting Edge was screened at the BFI Southbank 2013, marking a powerful showcase of Lunga Yeni’s thought-provoking storytelling and bold creative voice.
