New Project Announcement:
The Cold Room
Written and Directed by Lunga Yeni
A new one-act play — giving a voice to silence.
We’re thrilled to announce The Cold Room, an original one-act play by writer and director Lunga Yeni, will open at THE ALBANY, Deptford, Douglas Way, SE8 4AG on the Friday 8th May and Saturday 9th May 2026.
Starring:
Ren Yemaya as Coletta
Yvette Rochester Duncan as Kemi
Laine Powell as Kori
Set within the fractured intimacy of a rehearsal space, the play unravels the unspoken power dynamics between three Black creatives navigating art, identity, and survival within a system that both desires and erases them.
Part psychological drama, part meta-theatrical reckoning, The Cold Room explores how performance becomes both mask and mirror, asking what it costs to speak when silence is safer. Through a striking interplay of movement, language, and live video, the production shifts between reality and memory, humour and heartbreak, legacy and loss.
At its heart lies a question:
What happens when the roles we play to survive begin to play us?
Rich in rhythm, wit, and emotional truth, The Cold Room brings together the voices of women who refuse to be quiet and men learning to see beyond their own reflection. It’s a story about complicity, courage, and the echo between personal and collective histories; an invitation to look, to listen, and to finally break the cycle of silence.
